CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY
IACHR Client Interview Period
The Client Interview Period is a two-week long window between the release of the hypothetical case and the due date for the submission of written memorials. During this period, each participating institution (not each TEAM, but each UNIVERSITY) is entitled to two one-hour long interviews. One interview will be conducted with one of the case writers, who will portray the injured party (the petitioner), and the second interview will be with a program staff member portraying a representative of the state being sued. In these interviews, ALL the students representing one side will attend, and any may ask questions.
The Client Interview Procedure
- Each participating university `may email the Program Staff at moascentral@gmail.com and request a Client Interview time slot for the petitioners and one for the state.
- Interviews will be conducted online via Zoom and must occur during the two-week Client Interview Period.
- During the interview, student legal counsels may ask any questions they wish of the interviewee. These questions can include:
- Clarifying Questions (questions seeking clarification of wording or statements made in the hypothetical)
- Elaboration Questions (questions seeking additional information about facts not expressly mentioned in the hypothetical)
- Interpretation Questions (questions seeking further insight into the emotional background or thought process of the interviewee
- Any question may be asked, but the degree to which they are answered will vary. Interviewees, just like in real life, may withhold, skew, or deflect questions asked of them.
- Any information obtained in the two client interview periods may be used in the written legal memorial, and will not be shared with other teams.
- Other teams will not be privy to the information obtained in client interviews until those facts are revealed in the team's written memorials, which are posted the Monday following their due date. Memorials are open to all participants to read for around one week before the Preliminary Rounds. This week is referred to as the "Discovery Period".
- Client Interviews are optional, but are the only other source of information about the hypothetical case that are available to competitors. There are no clarification questions allowed outside the two scheduled interviews.
