About The ESMOAS Alumni Volunteer Pipeline
Competitions are judged by a group of selected ESMOAS alumni. These former students are invited to participate as members of the judging committees by the program director, based on their performance as delegates in previous models, and on their ability to judge fairly and equitably. Judges may not still be attending the university with which they participated as delegates, and may not currently be employed as a coach or assistant. First-year graduates are invited to participate remotely as judges of written work.
Two years of exceptional service on the research and writing review committee (first judging individual delegate work, second year judging team position papers) qualifies those wishing to advance to become competition judges. Competition judges observe all debate (summit) or hearings (moot court) during the conference, in person, determine many of the awards given, and provide teams written evaluations and feedback after the conference. Senior judges are provided lodging. Moot court judges must also be either law school graduates or L2 level students or higher.
This volunteer program ensures that each competition is judged by qualified individuals who understand both the competition rules and the "real world" application, and provides program alumni a great line item on their young curriculum vita or resume, as well as a chance to reunite with friends from ESMOAS annually.
If you are an ESMOAS alum, and are interested in serving as a judge or program staff member at future conferences, please complete the form below:
