The ESMOAS Alumni Volunteer Network
The ESMOAS is staffed and administered by an army of volunteers, most of whom are drawn from students who have participated in the program with distinction. Interested and qualified students first serve as members of the Student Steering Committee. After graduation, a select few are chosen to be part of the Research and Writing Review Committee, and a year or more of service on this committee then qualifies them for invitation to serve on the ESMOAS Summit of the Americas Judging Committee or, in the case of law students, the IACHR Moot Court Judging Committee once they receive their J.D.
The alumni network helps in two directions--first, it benefits the organization to have qualified, knowledgeable judges and vetters, who provide valuable academic feedback for our participants. For the alumni themselves, service in the organization provides a valuable line item on a young graduate's curriculum vita.

ABOUT OUR VOLUNTEER TEAMS
Executive Program Committee
The ESMOAS Program Committee is made up of program alumni and faculty representatives. These advisors serve on a volunteer basis, either as at-large members voted in by the committee, as ex-officio members by virtue of being conference or workshop host institutions, as the chairperson of the ESMOAS Judging Committee, as the student Secretary General for that year, or as the Executive Program Director (who administers the program and the conference at the behest of the faculty committee).
The committee makes final decisions regarding the content and execution of all aspects of the ESMOAS Program, and meets regularly through remote meetings and annually in person during the Parliamentary Procedures Workshop to discuss issues related to the program. They present their findings and proposals annually to the faculty participants of the ESMOAS Conference at its annual Faculty Luncheon.

Student Steering Committee
In 2013, the ESMOAS Steering Committee added a new opportunity for students by establishing the ESMOAS STUDENT STEERING COMMITTEE (SSC).
The SSC was established to ensure continued student input and participation in the planning and execution of the ESMOAS conference and workshop each year, providing each participating institution a voice in shaping the Rules of Procedure and other logistical changes. Each participating university may nominate one student, who must be returning the following year, to serve on the next year's SSC. This committee then meets with the Secretary General and Parliamentarian immediately after the close of the conference and discuss possible changes to the conference, workshop, program logistics, or rules of procedure. Their suggestions are then forwarded to the Program Director and the Faculty Steering Committee, who make changes to the program as necessary. In return for serving on the SSC, students receive recognition at the following conference, a letter of thanks and recommendation from the ESMOAS office, and valuable personal leadership experience.

Research & Writing Review Committee
The Research and Writing Review Committee is responsible for vetting written work turned in for the Summit of the Americas competition, with special emphasis on the review and scoring of resolutions (the fall committee) and for reviewing legal memorials submitted for the IACHR competition (spring committee). The RWR Committee is the first step toward becoming a debate judge at the conference. Prospective RWR members who are slated for spring graduation are contacted following the conference. The committee reports directly to the RWR Committee Coordinator, a member of the ESMOAS Judging Committee, and determines winners of written work awards, as well as acting as the final arbiter on the acceptance/rejection of submitted resolutions or legal memorials. Second year RWR members are selected to review, score, and award team position papers.
Summit Judging Committee
The ESMOAS Judging Committee is a group of volunteers who are notable graduates of participating institutions and now serve in the public or private sector. The committee is by invite only, and is responsible for providing objective evaluations for participating institutions in either the Summit of the Americas competition or the IACHR Moot Court competition. Only members of the alumni group who have served previously as an RWR Committee member or other volunteer are eligible to judge. Judges provide their services free of charge to our program, though their meals and, in certain cases, lodging, are covered by the program.
IACHR Judging Committee
The Inter-American Court of Human Rights Moot Court Competition Judging Committee is comprised of volunteers who are alumni of both participating ESMOAS institutions and nationally accredited law schools. This committee is by invite only, and is responsible both for judging the Moot Court Competition and for crafting the annual hypothetical case upon which the competition is centered. Judges provide services free of charge to the organization, though their lodging and board during the conference are covered by the program.
